Horizontal and Vertical Healthcare Integration: Lessons Learned from the United States

S. Robert Hernandez
Health Care Papers, 2000

The purpose of this commentary is to examine integration and consolidation activities in the United States. These experiences will be assessed in an attempt to offer insights for the Canadian system envisioned by Leatt, Pink and Guerriere. While numerous differences exist between the delivery systems in the two countries that make direct comparison difficult, it is hoped that movement towards an improved Canadian system will benefit from the United States mistakes and successes.
